The Choir |
The St. Lambert Choral Society maintains a 100-year old tradition, adds greatly to the cultural life of the community and happily fulfills its mission: to promote the performance and appreciation of vocal music.
A Proud Heritage in St. Lambert Since 1891
- The St. Lambert Choral Society is the oldest community choir in Québec and the third oldest in Canada.
- A group with the same name sang as long ago as 1891 when the choir gave its first concert (tickets 25 ¢) in the St. Lambert Boathouse.
- Officially founded in 1919, the choir today is a mixed-voice group of 65 amateur singers, directed by David Christiani and led by professional musicians.
Quality Concerts
- The choir performs all styles of music, from the great masterworks of the classical repertoire to contemporary and popular pieces.
- More than 1300 music lovers attend season concerts and many thousands more hear informal performances.
- Orchestras, musical ensembles, organists and pianists are engaged to accompany all concerts and first-class soloists are invited to perform with the choir.
- The St. Lambert Choral Society has earned an excellent reputation, singing regularly to packed and enthusiastic houses, and performing with others by invitation (I Musici de Montréal, McGill Chamber Orchestra and Orchestre symphonique de la Montérégie, for example.)
- “David Christiani’s choir is quite a revelation. Very different from what we are usually offered by amateur groups: in its discipline, the beauty of its voices, and the inspired interpretation.” (Claude Gingras, La Presse).

Volunteers and Friends of the Choir
- The St. Lambert Choral Society is fuelled by the energy and enthusiasm of the singers themselves, their families and friends.
- It is an independent, incorporated not-for-profit organization.
- It is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
- Funds are generated through ticket sales, membership fees, special events, program advertising, and the generous support of corporations, governments, season subscribers and other friends of the choir.
